Metering is very important because, the camera is metering the light all the time. When you set it wrongly, you’ll get over or under exposed images.

What is Metering?

Metering is simply the camera calculating how much light is reflected from the subject, so that it can give a very basic exposure that is proper, which will not be very bright and at same time not very dark.

For example, you’re on Aperture-priority mode , you select a value alongside ISO, the camera gives you a commensurate shutter speed value. The value of shutter speed given by the camera is decided by the metering mode you’re on. It’s that simple.
